How to Select the Perfect Flooring for Your Home
With a large selection of flooring types available, we understand that choosing the right option for your dream home isn’t always easy. You may have various factors to consider—such as function, style and of course, Canberra’s cooler climate.
As flooring plays a major role in the functionality, look and feel of your home, we’re here to guide you on how to select the perfect flooring for your lifestyle and budget.
Think about your lifestyle
The first question we ask homeowners when building their dream, luxury home is whether they have children and/or pets—or planning to have them. Of course, they’re fundamental members of the family but they can (and do!) influence the type of flooring you choose for your home.
If you’re planning for a pet-friendly home, consider flooring that’s wear-resistant, easy to clean with great warranty, and is less likely to scratch. We recommend vinyl or hybrid options as they’re durable, moderately scratch-resistant and easier to maintain.
If you have children or are planning for little ones, it’s ideal to consider something comfortable for them to play on, such as carpet, or laminate flooring—great at withstanding spills and stains compared to other flooring options.
Consider the climate
Living in Canberra, you may wish to explore radiant floor heating options for those chilly winter evenings. Alternatively, you can incorporate a mix of flooring such as plush carpets throughout the bedrooms and heated tiles in the bathrooms to elevate the comfort of your home.
Keep your budget in mind
While some flooring can sit on the more expensive end, there are plenty of high-quality and cost-effective options to suite your budget. If you’d rather allocate your budget elsewhere, we highly recommend vinyl, laminate or carpet as these are as effective as more expensive choices on the market.
Hardwood flooring has become extremely popular for its look and durability so if this is what you’re after, a more cost-effective alternative is engineered flooring. This uses less timber and is backed by a high-density fibreboard (HBF)—providing extra strength.
